When and Where is 18DSM?  18DSM is the last full weekend of June.
This year is June 25-28, 2026, and will be at the Fairfield Inn at 8661 Plum Drive in Urbandale, IA 50322.

How do I register? Here. Registration opens every year on January 16th.

What is the cost? Early registration is $50 for 4-day badge and $20 for a 1-day badge. Registration after June 16th and at the door is $60 for 4-day badge and $20 for a 1-day badge. A 4-day badge is required for door prize eligibility. New players can receive $10 off the badge price. 

Transportation to 18DSM? The Des Moines airport is easy to get in and out of. The Fairfield Inn does NOT offer an airport shuttle, but there are Uber/Lyft/Taxi services available. The hotel is located just off Interstate 80 and has a large, free parking lot.

What should I expect?  18DSM has an open gaming atmosphere and many welcoming attendees, play whatever games you want with whomever you want, schedule games on-site or in advance. The “first wave” of games usually starts between 8:30am and 9:00am as people arrive. The “second wave” of games usually starts between 1pm and 2pm. It’s a good idea to schedule something in advance if you plan to arrive outside those windows. You can bring your own games / poker chips or use those in the library.

Food options in the area? There are a few restaurants and fast-food options within walking distance, many options a short drive away, and food delivery services. Personal consumables are allowed in the event space, but please clean-up after yourself.

What if I’ve never played 18xx before?  No problem! During registration you can sign-up for a teaching game, typically held on Thursday. It will teach you the basics and then you can jump into other games during the weekend.
