June 26-29, 2025. We’re in a new location this year at The Fairfield Inn at 8661 Plum Drive, Urbandale, IA 50322 (just off I-80/I-35 at the 86th Street exit). It has more space and windows. I hope you join us.
2024 Recap
The highlights from our 4th Annual 18DSM Convention in Des Moines, Iowa on June 27-30, 2024. There are photos available here.
We had 29 attendees from 5 different states play 33 games (23 unique titles). Titles included: 1822ca, 1822mx, 1822pnw, 1824, 1830, 1837, 1839, 1846, 1848, 1860, 1861, 1862, the old prince 1871, 1880, 18chesapeake, 18 india, 18korea, 18neb, 18sj, 18usa, 21moon, and Railways of the Lost Atlas.
Saturday evening we awarded a tournament champion trophy to one of the local players, narrowly beating out the 2nd place finisher. Then we handed out a few door prizes including support from GMT Games, Cube4Me / Rails on Boards, and TraXX.
Thank you to all who attended and taught games. I’m looking forward to seeing you again next year!

The raffle will occur Saturday evening about 6pm immediately following the 2024 18DSM Champion Trophy presentation.

This year there will be a soft cap of 40 tickets. If we sell 40 tickets before May 28th, then we can reserve an additional room and increase the amount of tickets available. If we don’t sell 40 tickets until after May 28th, then we will start a waiting list.
2024 Dates
The date and location have been locked in for 2024. Plan to join us June 27-30, 2024 at the Holiday Inn on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines, Iowa. Registration will open after the first of the year. See you soon!

What: 4 days of 18xx gaming. An 18xx game library and poker chips available on-site. Door prize raffle and 18DSM Tournament winner announced on Saturday.

Price: Early Registration Price: $45 – 4-day badge, $15 – 1-day badges.
After June 30th and Door Price: $60 – 4-day badge, $20 – 1-day badges.
A 4-day badge is required for door prize raffle eligibility. New players can receive $5 off of a badge purchase. If there is enough interest, there will be a rules teach and learning game scheduled for Thursday.

21 attendees from 4 states and 1 from England. 28 games played (22 unique titles) including 2 prototypes (1833 ⅓ and 18EB Lhazaar). Titles played included: 1822CA, 1822MRS, 1822MX, 1824, 1826, 1832, 1833 ⅓, 1837, 1846, 1854, 1861, 1862, The Old Prince 1871, 1880, 1882, 18Chesapeake, 18DO, 18EB Lhazaar, and 18Hiawatha. (I was most excited to play The Old Prince again and learn 1832.)
Saturday evening we awarded a tournament champion trophy (using a scoring method similar to Chattanooga’s) to one of our local players. Then we handed out a few door prizes including support from GMT Games, Rails on Boards, and from local businesses Mayhem Collectables and Lucky Lotus Restaurant.
I had a great time and enjoyed meeting the new attendees and playing games from their “shelf of shame”. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year!
